Billy Goat Radio for Mine Risk Education
CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST:
We would like to invite organizations interested in using Billy Goat Radio in the field to contact us: we would like to give the first ones for free.
----------
Billy Goat Radio is an innovative tool for Mine Risk Education (MRE).
It consists of a cost-efficient system for writing short educational-entertainment serial dramas embedding mine risk education messages, tailored to the local context. While the episodes are broadcast by radio, they are also brought to local communities through itinerant live shows followed up by group activities. The tool is completed by a set of simple and cost-efficient audio recording and post producing commercial off-the shelf technologies.
After having been successfully used and evaluated in two very different scenarios: the Saharwi refugee camps in Algeria and the Cambodian communities living in Pailin area, Billy Goat Radio is finally ready to be used and tailored to any other local context.
Here you can find a demo episode, created using the new digitalized version of Adaptability System created using twine, an open-source software.
And here you can watch a video explaining how to use the simple software for creating the story.
Billy Goat Radio has been described in a paper published in the Journal of ERW and Mine Action recently. Here is the link to it.
